Video advice and live chat
Video advice and live chat infrastructure is provided as a service to Wiener Städtische by purpleview GmbH.
Before and during a video advice or live chat session between Wiener Städtische advisers and customers, the following types of data arise:
- Contact details (e.g. telephone number, e-mail address)
The text chat interface provided in addition to video advice is handled by purpleview’s servers. Chats are not saved on the server.
Wiener Städtische receives a transcript of the chat by e-mail after it is completed. This transcript is stored in Wiener Städtische’s e-mail management system in accordance with the data protection policy.
The audio and video streams are transmitted via a purpleview streaming server that is logically and physically separated from the rest of the IT system. Incoming streams are transient, i.e. no cache is stored on the server and it is not possible to record the streams. Technical measures are in place that prevent unauthorised access to streams.
purpleview and third parties engaged by purpleview do not have access to these data.
- IP address
Data are transferred between advisers and customers during video advice and live chat, but these data are not stored. Our advisers have access to a function with which they can display the IP address of the customer they are talking to if the customer behaves abusively. In such cases the IP address is also recorded in the standard server log file. Standard log data are retained for seven days so that problems can be identified and resolved.
- Other data (chat start and end, session ID, pre-survey and post-survey data)
For debugging purposes, as well as for the purposes of monitoring and reporting, the types of actions initiated by the adviser or customer (e.g. starting or ending a chat) are registered on purpleview’s servers. The contents of the actions are not stored. All data recorded in this way are anonymised and can only be connected with the Empathy session ID used. It is not possible to relate these data to specific end users retrospectively, but they may be connected with the adviser in question retrospectively (only for debugging purposes). Standard log data are retained for seven days so that problems can be identified and resolved. Reporting data can be stored and retained.
Pre-survey and post-survey data related to an Empathy session may be collected and retained.
Before a live chat or video advice session begins, we ask you to provide some information – including your name – so that our advisers can address you personally.
Post-survey data relates to the questionnaire filled out by our advisers after their conversation with you. This questionnaire is used exclusively for internal evaluation of service quality and internal training purposes, and does not contain information that could identify customers.
These data are only accessed to maintain service quality and for support and maintenance purposes.
In various places on the wienerstaedtische.at site you are offered live chat or co-browsing as a contact option.
In live chat, you will be connected to a member of staff from our service hotline, with whom you can talk by text in real-time in a separate browser window.
In co-browsing, your adviser will open a new, joint session on the website, during which you can navigate our website together with the adviser, for example to go over content or fill in forms with their support. Both you and the adviser are able to take control of browsing at any time.
In various places on the wienerstaedtische.at site you are offered video advice as a contact option.
This connects you with a member of staff from our service hotline, so that you can discuss any questions you have about your insurance contracts and our products face-to-face. Before the session begins, you will be asked to grant access to the camera and microphone on your computer. Your microphone will only be accessed after you give consent. For the picture from your camera to be transmitted, you need to grant consent a second time by clicking on a button.
Pop-up connect is a system that can be used to display interactive invitations to a video advice session to website visitors.
Individual customers are recognised by means of a globally unique ID (GUID) that is generated. The GUID is created the first time a user visits a website for which pop-up connect is activated. There are two ways that the GUID can be saved in a browser:
- In the browser’s local storage
- In a cookie
If the first option is not available (e.g. in the case of older browsers such as IE8), the second option is used automatically. Cookies expire after 24 hours. If this option is also unavailable, e.g. because a user automatically blocks cookies (this can be achieved by using a browser plug-in, for example), the user cannot be recognised on repeat visits to a site with pop-up connect.
No other forms of active content (Java applets and ActiveX controls) are used on our website.

What types of cookies does Wiener Städtische use?
We use two types of cookies: session cookies and persistent cookies.
- Session cookies are saved until you close your browser, after which they are automatically deleted from your device.
Session cookies are used for online insurance, logins and advice pages.
- Persistent cookies remain on your device for the period of time specified in the cookies. The cookies are deleted after this period and not when you close your browser. Each time you visit our website, the cookies are reactivated.
Persistent cookies: confirmation in the header – this is saved for one year.
We use session cookies most frequently, because they are the least disruptive type of cookie. These cookies contain various data, e.g. your selected customer service representative, or are used to keep you logged in during your visit to our website. Session cookies are used to improve your user experience when you visit our website.
Our website uses very few persistent cookies. Those that are used are mainly for analytical purposes. These cookies show which pages were visited, how many users have visited our website, and help to analyse general user behaviour on our site.

When video advice and live chat are used, purpleview GmbH’s system saves the following cookies in the adviser’s and customer’s browsers. The cookies are used for authentication and to re-establish the connection if it is lost. Cookies are not used for analysis.
